– For the second time in as many seasons, the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team used a fourth-quarter rally to defeat the University of Detroit Mercy Wednesday, Dec. 5, inside the Convocation Center. Trailing by six to begin the final frame, the Eagles (4-2) outscored the Titans (2-6) by a 23-10 margin in the fourth quarter to secure a 60-53 victory over their intrastate counterparts.

In addition to matching a career-high with 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting, redshirt senior Lorraine Enabulele (Ajax, Ontario, Canada-Notre Dame (Kansas)) set a personal-best with 17 rebounds for her first collegiate double-double. Her 17 boards mark the sixth-most in a single game in Convocation Center history, and the most by an Eagle since Phillis Webb also grabbed 17 against Air Force, Dec. 21, 2016. Freshman Jenna Annecchiarico (Baldwin, N.Y.-Baldwin) paced the Green and White with a career-high 18 points, while redshirt sophomore Corrione Cardwell (Cleveland, Ohio-New Tech East) added 12 points and a career-best six assists. Meanwhile, freshman Natalia Pineda (Miami, Fla.-John A. Ferguson) pulled down a career-best eight rebounds to help Eastern to a 45-32 edge on the glass.

EMU held the edge from the floor, finishing 36.5 percent (19-of-52) from the floor, while Detroit Mercy shot at a 30.9 percent (17-of-55) clip. The Eagles were superior in the post, tallying 24 points in the paint while holding UDM to just 10.

Trailing 12-6 with under four minutes to play in the opening quarter, sophomore Courtnie Lewis (Belton, Mo.-Belton) buried her first triple of the night, before sophomore Autumn Hudson (Richwood, Ohio-North Union) sank a layup to trim the deficit to 12-11 with 2:23 remaining in the first frame. On the Eagles' next possession, Lewis was fouled while attempting a corner three, but proceeded to make two of three attempts from the charity stripe to cap a 7-0 EMU run and give the Green and White a 13-12 edge with 2:09 to go in the first.

UDM grabbed a 20-17 lead early in the second stanza, but once again the Eagles bounced back with a 6-0 run to move back in front, 23-20, with 4:18 left in the half. Annecchiarico knocked down a three to extend EMU's advantage to 26-22 with 1:18 left in the second, but the teams took a 26-26 tie into the intermission.

A streaky second half started brightly for the Green and White, as the hosts scored six unanswered points to build a 32-26 lead, prompting Detroit Mercy head coach Bernard Scott to use a timeout with 6:43 left in the third period. However, UDM responded with an 11-0 run and pulled ahead after three quarters, 43-37.

A corner three from Lewis, combined with patches of lackluster free throw shooting from the Titans, kept the Eagles in the contest. Knotted at 51 past the halfway point of the fourth, Cardwell nearly turned the ball over in the offensive zone, but regained control and sent a pass to Enabulele for a layup to give EMU the lead for good, 53-51, with 2:33 left in regulation. Annecchiarico put the game beyond any doubt with a corner three to make it a 56-51 contest with 1:17 on the clock, and used free throws down the stretch to clinch a 60-53 win over the Titans.

Eastern Michigan kicks off a four-game roadtrip Saturday, Dec. 8, when EMU travels to Fort Wayne, Ind. for a clash with Purdue Fort Wayne. Tipoff between the Eagles and Mastodons is scheduled for 2 p.m.
