EMU is the only school with three student-athletes who boast 4.0 GPAs
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University soccer team saw 10 student-athletes land on the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, the league office announced Tuesday, Dec. 4. A total of 114 student-athletes were named to the team, while EMU's three student-athletes with perfect 4.00 grade point averages were the most of any school in the conference.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. Freshman and first-year transfers are not eligible for the award.
Receiving the accolade for the Eagles were: sophomore Marla Cobetto (Trenton, Mich.-Trenton), senior Mia Colavito (Mississauga, Ontario-Loyola Catholic), senior Mikayla Cupp (Ostego, Mich.-Ostego), sophomore Alia Frederick (Linden, Mich.-Linden), junior Aubrey Martin (Toronto, Ontario-Father John Redmond), redshirt sophomore Sabrina McNeill (Whitby, Ontario-Henry Street), redshirt junior Kristin Nason (Brooklin, Ontario-Donald A. Wilson), sophomore Madeline Olson (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville), sophomore Tessa Osborne (Mentor, Ohio-Lake Catholic), and senior Kaylin Williams (Kansas City, Mo.-Winnetonka). Cobetto, Frederick, McNeill, Olson, and Osborne garner the honor for the first time in their careers, while Cupp and Nason are second-time awardwinners. Meanwhile, Williams and Colavito receive the award for the third time in her careers. Additionally, EMU is one of only two MAC teams to have two student-athletes with perfect 4.0 GPAs.
Cobetto, who boasts a 3.45 GPA, appeared in 14 matches for the Green and White. The Trenton, Mich. native scored a goal and added an assist while finishing the season with three points. Cobetto scored a goal at UMass, Sept. 16, while she provided an assist on Chloe Chatzis' goal against Creighton, Aug. 31.
One of 11 student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 grade point average, Colavito turned in the best season of her career for the Eagles this past year. Playing in 17 matches and making three starts, Colavito notched the first goal of her career for the Green and White, a 70th-minute strike against Miami, Oct. 18.
Cupp, one of the top defensive midfielders in the conference, owns a 3.70 GPA. A key piece to Eastern's efforts on the defensive end of the pitch, Cupp was often tasked with shutting down the top player on the opposition. In addition to recording an assist, she led the Eagles' defense to five shutouts.
Another Eagle to boast a perfect 4.00 GPA is Frederick, who turned in a strong season for EMU. Making the move from midfield to the backline, Frederick helped the Green and White to five shutouts. She notched a goal at Buffalo, Sept. 30, the second of her career.
Holding a 3.99 grade point average, Martin appeared in 13 matches for EMU, making seven starts on the backline. Martin set career-highs in shots (4), shots on goal (2), and minutes (741), while helping Eastern to five shutouts.

The standout midifelder ranked second on the team with seven goals, while tying for the team lead with six assists. Her career-best 20 points were also second on the team, while her four game-winning goals marked a career-high.
Nason, a Second Team All-MAC selection, boasts a perfect 4.0 grade point average. The Brooklin, Ontario native turned in the best season of her career, leading the Eagles with eight goals and adding five assists, both of which were career-bests. Meanwhile, Nason's 21 points were the most by an Eagle since 2013.
Carrying a 3.37 GPA, Olson played in 17 matches for the Green and White, notching 16 starts in the midfield. She tied a career-high with three goals and chipped in two helpers for a total of eight points. For the season, Olson recorded 40 shots, putting 16 on frame.

She scored the first goal of her career and added an assist on the offensive end of the pitch, while leading the EMU defense to five shutouts.
Rounding out EMU's selections is Williams, holding a 3.56 GPA. One of the best goalkeepers to don the Green and White, Williams put together a strong season despite injury.
