Swim and Dive Slated Second in MAC Preseason Poll

Eastern Michigan begins 2018-19 competition against Denison, Oct. 20
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — Coming off the Eagles' fourth consecutive runner-up finish at the Mid-American Conference Championships, the Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving team was selected to finish second in the 2018-19 MAC Coaches' Preseason Poll, the league announced Friday, Oct. 12.
For the fourth straight season, MAC Coaches unanimously chose the University of Akron, defending Mid-American Conference Champion, to finish the regular season in first place, receiving 64 points. The Eagles earned 51 points, followed closely by the Miami Redhawks (50) and Buffalo (41). Bowling Green, Ohio, Toledo, and Ball State rounded out the preseason rankings.
Eastern Michigan returns MAC Co-Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Year Nicole Swartz (Dayton, Ohio- Centerville), in addition to NCAA All-American Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.- Galesburg), and All-MAC First Team selection Casey Gavigan (East Setauket, N.Y.- Ward Melville). The Eagles, who finished the 2017-18 regular season 8-1 in dual meets, also bring back reigning MAC Freshman Diver of the Year in Micaela Schempf (Bowling Green, Ohio- Bowling Green).
The Green and White opens competition at home against Denison, Oct. 20. The meet is slated to begin at 1 p.m. in Jones Natatorium.
