MUSKEGON, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country program placed first at the Jayhawk Invitational 8k in Muskegon, Mich. Friday, Oct. 12. EMU ended with a team score of 16 points, its best final score of the season.
"I thought today's meet was a very positive racing experience and yielded positive results following two weeks of very productive training," said EMU Head Coach John Goodridge. "I was specifically impressed with Sheridan as he continues his emergence as a talented DI runner. Magnusson's strong debut, Perrin's continuance of his consistent season, and Zeurcher's steady improvement highlighted a very solid team effort."
All five of Eastern's scorers finished in the top-10, not including redshirt senior Melika Ghali (Toronto, Canada-Jarvis Collegiate Institute), who clocked in at 24:27.36, claiming the individual title while running unattached.
Junior captain Austin Wicker (Pinckney, Mich.-Pinckney) bested the existing course record while pacing the harriers representing Eastern, finishing third with a personal-best 8k time of 24:31.46. Freshman Kalani Sheridan (Nelson, New Zealand-Nayland College) turned in his best performance while donning the Green and White, crossing in 24:42.98 to place fourth. In his EMU debut, freshman Baldvin Magnusson (Hull, England-Hull University) marked a fifth-place finish with a time of 24:49.10. Rounding out Eastern Michigan's scoring runners were freshmen Noah Perrin (Akron, Ohio-Woodridge) and Eddie Zeurcher (Rocky River, Ohio-Rocky River), who crossed in 24:57.56 and 25:05.84, placing seventh and ninth respectively.
