Pre-Nationals will include 10 teams ranked within USTFCCCA's top-30
MADISON, Wis. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team competes at Pre-Nationals in Madison, Wis. Saturday, Oct. 13. This will be the second straight meet the Eagles go up against some of the nation's best, having taken part in the Notre Dame Invitational, Sept. 28.
At the South Bend, Ind. based meet, Eastern placed eighth with a team score of 262 points. Senior Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville Community) and redshirt senior Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich.-Chippewa Valley) continued their impressive seasons, finishing 14th and 22nd, respectively.
The Eagles edged then-No. 21 California in South Bend, and look to take down a number of United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) top-ranked teams in Madison this weekend. The invitational will have two separate races (white and cardinal), with EMU running in the 'White Races'. Eastern's pool of competition is comprised of 10 teams ranked in the USTFCCCA's top-30, including the reigning National Champions, No. 3 New Mexico. The other nine ranked teams are comprised of No. 5 Stanford, Great Lakes Region foes No. 8 Wisconsin (host) and No. 10 Michigan, as well as No. 12 Furman, No. 16 Washington, No. 20 Utah State, No. 22 Notre Dame, No. 24 Yale, and No. 28 Georgia. Additionally, Eastern is just one-of-two teams representing the Mid-American Conference in the 'White Races', as the pool also includes Central Michigan.
Eastern's race commences at 10:45 a.m. at the Zimmer Championship Course.
