YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team head to Bowling Green, Ohio for the second time this season to take part in the Tom Wright Classic Friday, Jan. 19.

The Eagles faired well in their first visit to BG this season, Dec. 8, having had eight student-athletes place in the top-three of their respective events, including three event champions. The meet was used as an opportunity for several freshmen to gain valuable experience competing at the collegiate level, as eight total freshmen participated. Freshmen Keypathwa Gibson (Toledo, Ohio-Roy C. Start) and Crystal Washington (Los Angeles, Calif.-Carson) each earned their first event titles as Eagles, as Gibson captured first place in the 200m dash and Washington placed first in the triple jump. Fellow freshmen Graysen Simmons (Huber Heights, Ohio-Wayne) and Emily Westers (Hastings, Mich.-Hastings) also had impressive performances, with Simmons taking second place in pole vault after a jump off with teammate and junior Rebekah Carr (Celina, Ohio-Celina), while Westers claimed third in the high jump with a height of 1.58m.

Most recently, Eastern had a well-rounded performance in the Wolverine Invitational, Jan. 13. Junior Jessica Harris (Slidell, La.-Slidell) highlighted the sprints crew, claiming first in the 60m dash and second in the 200m. Junior Ayanna O'Neal (Cincinnati, Ohio-Withrow) set a new personal-best in the 60m hurdles final with a time of 8.66, while senior Allyson Goff (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) finished not far behind as the two swept the top spots in the event, respectively. Senior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia-Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) and Washington also notched the top two spots in their event, marking distances of 12.21m and 11.65m in the triple jump, respectively. Additionally, senior Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich.-Chippewa Valley) broke her personal record in the 3000m run with a time of 9:29.40, which earned her second place, while one of the 4x400 relay squads also claimed silver with a time of 3:45.53.

Competition is slated to begin at 5 p.m. starting with field events, with track events scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Fans can follow live results by clicking here, or by following the link listed on the women's track and field schedule page on EMUEagles.com.
