EMU Set for Doug Hansen Open

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team heads to University Center, Mich. to take part in the Doug Hansen Open Friday, Jan. 19. This is the second consecutive season the Eagles participate in the in-state competition hosted by Saginaw Valley State University.

In last season's meet, the Green and White captured five event titles and saw a total of 11 top-three finishes. The meet also served as a setting for breakout performances by then-freshman Devonte Findlay (Lauderhill, Fla.-Blanche Ely) and junior-transfer Leighton Antonio (Hudson, Ohio-Hudson). Findlay marked a new career-high in the 60m hurdles, finishing in a time of 8.21 to take first place. Antonio also placed first in his respective event, notching a time of 6.93 in the 60m dash. Additionally, Antonio was a vital piece to the 4x400m relay team who took first place in 3:18.59, while Findlay was a member of the group who placed third in the same event. Current juniors Cameron Hart (Columbus, Ohio-Bishop Hartley) and Tyler Underwood (Clinton, Mich.-Clinton) also took home wins with then-personal records, marking a height of 2.08m in the high jump and a time of 21.83 in the 200m dash, respectively.

The Eagles look to once again have a successful trip to the Doug Hansen Open, after most recently finding success in the Wolverine Invitational, Jan. 13. Action in Ann Arbor was highlighted by nine student-athletes earning career-bests, the return of Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio-Findlay) which resulted in two first-place finishes, and the debut of freshman Owen Day (Ottawa, Ontario-International School of Dusseldorf), who took first place in the mile run ahead of 24 other competitors.

Competition is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. with final results available after the conclusion of the meet.
