ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team took three event titles in the Wolverine Invitational Saturday, Jan. 13, in Ann Arbor, Mich. Overall, the Eagles had 10 performances which earned a top-three spot in each respective event.
Junior Jessica Harris (Slidell, La.-Slidell) dominated the sprints, placing first in the 60m dash and second in the 200m. She has now finished either first or second in every event she has participated in this season. Freshman Michaela Nelms (Rocky Mount, N.C.-Nash Central) also had success in the 200m, placing fourth in her debut in the event with a time of 25.07.
The 60m hurdles saw Eastern take the top-two spots, with junior Ayanna O'Neal (Cincinnati, Ohio-Withrow) placing first with a career-best time of 8.66, and Allyson Goff (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) finishing close behind in 8.686.
Senior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia-Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) was the third Eagle to take their event title, as her and freshman Crystal Washington (Los Angeles, Calif.-Carson) also earned the top-two spots in the triple jump with distances of 12.21m and 11.65m, respectively.
Another Eagle who posted a career-time was senior Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich.-Chippewa Valley), who notched a 3000m time of 9:29.40 to take second in the event. Cizmas was followed by redshirt senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia-Lyceum #83), who finished in 9:33.61 to take fifth.
Freshmen Kadian Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica) and Savanah Luthman (New Bremen, Ohio-Minster) both marked new career-bests in the weight throw with a 14.81m and 13.89m, respectively.
Eastern continues competition Friday, Jan. 19, when they head to Bowling Green, Ohio to take part in the Tom Wright Classic.
