Tyler Brown Shines in Return to Action

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team saw nine student-athletes post career-bests in the Wolverine Invitational Saturday, Jan. 13, in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Eagles totaled three event titles, two of which belong to redshirt senior Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio-Findlay). Brown first captured the 200m by crossing the finish line in 21.51, before finishing atop the podium in long jump with a distance of 6.96m. Along with Brown, freshman Owen Day (NRW, Germany-International School of Dusseldorf) shined in his track and field debut, taking first place in the mile run with a time of 4:08.79, narrowly beating fellow Eagle, redshirt senior Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland-Mountain Ridge), who took third in 4:09.69.

Sophomore Tyler Johnson (Dayton, Ohio-Stivers School for the Arts) led the way for the sprints crew, as he placed second in the 60m dash with a time of 6.84. Additionally, senior Leighton Antonio (Columbus, Ohio-Eastmoor Academy) took fifth in 6.93 after placing second in the qualifying round.

Freshman Owen Richardson (Basingstoke, England) and Treston White (Lockport, N.Y.-Lockport) each placed second in their respective events, as Richardson finished the 400m in 48.01 and White crossed the 600m finish line in 1:20.57. Senior Tom Jozwiak (Southgate, Mich.-Thomas J. Anderson) and sophomore Roderic Wilson (Atlanta, Ga.-Blanche Ely) also had impressive days in the 600m, as they each notched career-best times of 1:22.58 and 1:23.17, respectively.

The weight throws squad also saw two members post career-best distances, with junior Zach Harkey (Huron, Ohio-Huron) and redshirt junior Austin Hazek (Medina, Ohio-Medina) placing third and fourth with marks of 18.03m and16.97m, respectively. Redshirt junior Zach Purcilly (Troy, Mich.-Avondale) led the Eagles in the shot put with a career-long distance of 16.43m, while sophomore Colin Etchen (Edgerton, Ohio-Edgerton) paced the Green and White in pole vault with another personal-best, marking a height of 5.10m to take third place.

The Eagles pick back up next week when they head to the Doug Hansen Open Friday, Jan. 19, in University Center, Mich.
