EMU improved by a full point from Penn State, but ultimately fell to CMU
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team dropped its home-opener to Central Michigan, 194.525-194.025, Saturday, Jan. 13, inside the Convocation Center.
The meet was highlighted by senior Kendall Valentin (Holmdel, N.J.-Holmdel) earning a share of the bars title with a score of 9.875, as well as four other Eagles notching career-best scores.
Eastern's best event of the day came from the bars squad, who notched a 48.900 for EMU's highest event score this season. Outside of Valentin's meet-high 9.875, redshirt senior Lacey Rubin (Plainview, N.Y.-Plainview Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy) and sophomore Emili Dobronics (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) posted scores of 9.825 and 9.800, respectively, while redshirt sophomore Carly Clark (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) marked a career-high 9.700.
Valentin also paced the Eagles on beam with a 9.875, which was good for second-best in the event. Freshman Jada Rondeau (Norwood Young American, Minn.-Central) continued her outstanding start to her first-year campaign, marking a 9.825 for a new career-high for bars, while Rubin added support with a solid routine, earning a 9.800 for her efforts.
The Green and White finished its day by notching a 48.525 on floor, led by Dobronics who put together an impressive routine to earn a 9.800. The Eagles outperformed the Chippewas on both floor and bars, but ultimately couldn't overcome the Chippewas after some shaky beam routines and a couple team deductions.
Eastern looks to bounce back as they continue conference action next week when they head to Bowling Green, Ohio to take on the Falcons. Competition is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
