EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Senior Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) tied for 20th and helped the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team to a ninth-place finish Sunday, Sept. 24, at the Mary Fossum Invitational on the par 72, 6,334-yards Forest Akers West Golf Course. Beck, who turned in her 15th career top-20 performance, closed out the weekend with a 75 for a cumulative total of 232 (80-77-75). Michigan State's Sarah Burnham cruised to a three stroke victory with a six-under par 210 (70-67-73).
As a team, the Eagles finished with a two-day total of 953 (319-316-318). The Spartans captured the 34th annual invitational with a tournament record five-under 859 (285-278-296). MSU shot an eight-over-par 296 and finished 46 shots ahead of second-place Toledo, which totaled a 41-over-par 905 (296-304-305).
Behind Back, freshman Preaw Sripatrprasite (Bangkok, Thailand-Siam International) carded a final round 80 for a two-day mark of 240 (78-82-80) in a tie for 38th. Junior Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) took home 42nd-place with a 241 (82-76-83), while sophomore Julia Stevenson (Milford, Mich.-Milford) added a 247 (79-81-87) for 45th. Sophomore Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne) closed with her best round of the weekend with an 80 for a 249 (85-84-80) in a tie for 49th.
Playing as an independent, sophomore Katelin Lawson (LaSalle, Ontario-Ridge Community-Tampa) shot rounds of 80,82, and 89 for a 251 in her first tournament wearing the Green and White.
The Eagles will be back in action Oct.2-3 at the Kzoo Classic in Kalamazoo, Mich.
