Breault falls in title match 3&1 to Tom Werkmeister

More Information.

ADA, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University junior golfer Beau Breault (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) finished as the runner-up at the 106th Michigan Amateur Championship at the Egypt Valley Country Club Saturday, June 24.

In Saturday's semifinal, Breault beat Brett Hudson, 4&3, to advance to the championship match. However, the Hartland, Mich. native would drop a 3&1 decision to 2009 Michigan Amateur champion and 2012 runner-up Tom Werkmeister to claim second-place.

Breault, a former Golf Association of Michigan (GAM) Junior Invitational champion, topped Andrew Tindall, 2&1, in the round of 16, and then toppled 2001 Michigan Amateur champion Andy Matthews, 3&2. He did it without making a bogey in either match.

Breault had never made match play before in a GAM match play event.

"That was my first goal of the week, and then anything can happen in match play and I just tried to take it day by day," Breault said. "I really think I love the format. This tournament is awesome."
