NORFOLK, Va. (EMUEagles.com) — Just a few months removed from its third consecutive, and 34th overall, Mid-American Conference Championship, the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team was rewarded for its efforts in the classroom by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Wednesday, June 20. As a team, the Eagles were recognized as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team. Additionally, three student-athletes earned CSCAA Individual Scholar All-America accolades.
To be selected to the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable Mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at their respective diving qualifying meets.
Individually, Logan Burton (Chesapeake, Va.-Hickory), Parker Saladin (Buchanan, Mich.-Buchanan), and Matan Segal (Lehavim, Israel-Hof HaSharon) were named CSCAA Scholar All-America Honorable Mention.
Burton, an All-MAC First Team honoree and Academic All-MAC selection, took part in nine meets for Eastern. Reeling in 16 top-three finishes, Burton claimed first-place five times. At the MAC Championships, he picked up third-place finishes in the 100 and 200 Fly, and a fifth-place mark in the 100 Back. Burton holds a 3.60 GPA as a sport management major.
In his first year donning the Green and White, Saladin swam in eight meets for EMU. Collecting 10 top-five finishes, including a trio of wins, Saladin won the 200 Fly against Denison, Oct. 22, Oakland, Nov. 12, and Ball State, Jan. 14. At the MAC Championships, Saladin provided the Eagles with the depth need to take home the conference title, as the Buchanan, Mich. native competed in the 500 Free, 200 Fly, and 400 IM.
After joining the Eagles at the start of the winter semester, Segal emerged as a key contributor in Eastern Michigan's conference championship. Swimming in five meets, Segal posted four top-five finishes. At the MAC Championships, the Lehavim, Israel native rounded out a sweep of the top-three slots in the 200 Back, claiming third with the fourth-best time in EMU annals. He added a seventh-place finish in the 100 Back and an 18th-place finish in the 200 IM in his first appearance at the MAC Championships. A MAC Swimmer of the Week honoree, Segal also swam a leg of EMU's third-place 400 Relay at the conference meet.
