Rowing Heads to 22nd Annual Lubbers Cup

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's rowing team continues its spring slate this weekend when it returns to the 22nd annual Lubbers Cup, Saturday-Sunday, April 8-9, in Spring Lake, Mich.
The Lubbers Cup, named after former Grand Valley State University president, Arend D. Lubbers, features hundreds of student-athletes and some of the top rowing teams from the Midwest. Since its origin in 1995, the Lubbers Cup Regatta has grown into an event that attracts over 500 student-athletes to the Spring Lake Yacht Club each year.
The Eagles have participated in the Lubbers Cup the past seven seasons. Last season saw blustery weather cancel numerous races, but the Eagles were still able to find some success. Out of the seven events, EMU claimed victory in three races, including two of the three ran by the Varsity 8.
This season, EMU will put four boats in the water, including two Varsity 8's, a Novice 8, and a Varsity 4. The other teams participating on the women's side are host Grand Valley State, Case Western, Drake, Illinois, Marquette, Ohio State Club, and Purdue.
