Women's Track & Field Preps for Two More Tough Meets

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team returns to the Penn Relays this week, April 27-29, for the first time since 2012, while the squad will also compete closer to home at the Gina Relays, April 27-29.
Last week, the Eagles made the trek south to Columbus, Ohio for the Jesse Owens Invitational, April 21-22. On day one, senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia - Lyceum #83) finished third in the 1500m run, while sophomore Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind. - Zionsville Community) took fifth in a career-best 4:28.01. Day two saw junior Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa. - Hempfield Area) take home the bronze in the 200m dash with a personal-best time of 23.86 seconds, and junior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) secure the silver in the triple jump with a mark of 12.55 meters/ 41 feet 2.25-inches.
The Eagles competed at the Gina Relays just last year, as the squad had a contingent travel to Hillsdale for the meet. There, Amy Frauhammer kicked things off with a 12th-place finish in the 5000m run open with a personal-best time of 17:38.51. On the second day, Iesha Hardiman nabbed fifth in the 400m dash, while junior Rebekah Branham (Circleville, Ohio - Circleville) won the 800m run in 2:13.30. Additionally, fellow junior Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich. - Chippewa Valley) placed second in the 1500m run championship with a personal-best time of 4:21.96. Finally, Bogdanova took seventh in the 3000m steeplechase championship in a career-best 10:35.20, and sophomore Ayanna O'Neal (Cincinnati, Ohio - Withrow) and Maya Carter took third in the 100m hurdles and the 400m hurdles, respectively.
The Green and White have not competed at the Penn Relays since 2012. There, Tatijana Jacobson tied for eighth in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet 7.75-inches, while Lydia Gomez-Diaz won the hammer throw with a toss of 190 feet 1-inch. Additionally, Rosie White jumped 19 feet 9.75-inches in the long jump, which was good for fourth. Finally, Asia Rawls secured sixth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.67 seconds, while the Eagles also found success in multiple relays.
Both the Penn Relays and the Gina Relays can be followed from home with a live stream. The Penn Relays kick off the collegiate portion of the meet on Thursday, April 27, with the women's 400m hurdles championship at 10 a.m., while field events begin just before at 9 a.m. with the women's discus. On Friday, April 28, the men's 400m hurdles championship and men's discus throw gets the day started at 9 a.m., while Saturday's collegiate portion starts at 9 a.m. with the men's triple jump. The Gina Relays begin Thursday, April 27, with the men's decathlon at 3 p.m., while running events start at 6 p.m. with the women's 3000m steeplechase. Action resumes on Friday, April 28, with the men's decathlon at 9 a.m. and the men's hammer throw at noon. Finally, Saturday, April 29, starts at 10 a.m. with the women's pole vault.
