PHILADELPHIA, Pa. & HILLSDALE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team wrapped up the first day of competition at both the Penn Relays and the Gina Relays today, April 27. Eastern had a number of competitors turn in strong performances at the prestigious Penn Relays, including a pair of top-10 finishes.

Senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia – Lyceum #83) had a strong performance in the 3000m steeplechase, as she crossed the finish line in a career-best 10:21.73 to claim ninth-place. Redshirt senior Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium – University of Leuven) ran in the race as well, claiming 30th in 10:53.26. EMU's top finisher in the 5000m run was redshirt sophomore Allie Knoll (Warren, Mich. – Warren Mott), who secured 21st in a career-best 10:21.73.

Eastern claimed a 19th-place finish in the 4x100m relay prelims, as the team of sophomore Jessica Harris (Slidell, La. – Slidell), senior Khadesha James (Irvington, N.J. – Irvington), freshman Brittni Mason (Richmond Heights, Ohio – West Geauga), and junior Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa. – Hempfield Area) clocked in at 46.10 seconds. The finish was also good for third in the team's heat. The 4x400m relay also saw Eastern finish within the top-20, as the team of freshman Micah Johnston, James, Mason, and Jones posted a time of 3:44.53 to finish 16th.

In the 400m hurdles, James secured a 21st-place finish overall. James was able to win her heat, clocking in with a personal-best time of 1:01.18, besting her previous best by just over a second. Fellow senior Dayna Hurd (Carson, Calif. – Carson) took part in the event as well, nabbing 32nd in 1:02.12. The long jump saw junior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) turn in another top-10 finish, as she claimed eighth with a mark of 5.78 meters/ 18 feet 11.75-inches.

The Eagles also had a pair of runners compete at the Gina Relays. There, junior Lauren Pottschmidt (Granger, Ind. – Penn) secured the silver in the 3000m steeplechase, clocking in with a personal-best time of 11:33.62. Meanwhile, freshman Abbigail Stemple (Mason, Ohio – William Mason) turned in a time of 19:28.04 in the 5000m run, which was a career-best.

The Green and White continue both the Penn Relays and the Gina Relays tomorrow, April 28. Action from both meets is scheduled to resume at 9 a.m.
