COLUMBUS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Facing a challenging field that featured three teams ranked in the top 50 nationally, the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team finished in 13th-place at the 2017 Robert Kepler Intercollegiate Sunday, April 23. Battling near perfect conditions, the Eagles finished the tournament with a round of 315 for a two-day total of 931 (306-310-315).
The University of Illinois, the 10th-ranked team in the country, overtook No. 12 Kent State University to win the tournament by 10 shots with a 54-hole score of 864 (298-282-284). The Golden Flashes were second at 874, followed by the University of Iowa in third at 899.
Dylan Meyer of Illinois was the individual medalist honors at two-under par 211. Meyer finished with a final round five-under 66 to move in front of KSU's Bjarki Petursson.
Leading the way for EMU was senior Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) with a 228 (72-77-79) tying for 28th overall. Senior Jared Multer (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview-Grand Rapids C.C.) tied for 48th with a 234 (79-74-81) while junior Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) managed a 238 (85-78-75) in 60th-place.
Junior Tyler Lewis (Ortonville, Mich.-Brandon-Mott CC) carded a 240 (79-81-80) and sophomore Beau Breault (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) rounded out the EMU scoring with a 245 (76-84-85).
Eastern Michigan now travels to Nashport, Ohio, for the Mid-American Conference Championships, April 28-30, at the Virtues Golf Course.
