Women's Golf Finishes First Day at Henssler Intercollegiate

KENNESAW, Ga. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team posted a solid 597 (295-302) to stand in 12th-place Monday, March 27, at the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate. The two-day, 54-hole tournament is being played on the par-72, 6,032 yard at Pinetree Country Club course.
The opening round score was EMU's third-lowest of the 2016-17 campaign in the highly-competitive field.
No. 24 ranked Purdue fired a one-under par 575 (289-286) and is in first place, three shots ahead of Memphis at two-over par 578 (295-283). No. 13 Kent State is third with a 581 (285-296) and Maryland is fourth at 582 (301-281).
Junior Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) and sophomore Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) were Eastern's top finishers, tying for 30th at five-over par 149.
Senior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) and Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne) are tied for 39th-place with a 150. Sophomore Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymongkhon School) wrapped up the scoring with a 160 (81-79) in a tie for 78th.
The teams will finish with 18 holes on Tuesday, March 28.
