LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team shot an opening day 585 (295-290) and is in fifth place at the Little Rock/First Tee Classic Monday, March 27. The event is being played at the par 72, 7326-yard Chenal Country Club course.
Junior Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) and sophomore Beau Breault (Howell, Mich.-Hartland) each shot an even-par 144 and are tied for ninth place individually. The duo are four strokes behind leader Blake Stock of Stephen F. Austin, who sits on top of the leaderboard with a 138 (70-68).
Senior Philippe Weppernig (Lucerne, Switzerland-Kantonsschule Alpenquai Luzern-Owens C.C.) is tied for 39th with 150 (74-76). Seniors Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) and Jared Multer (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview-Grand Rapids C.C.) are tied for 44th at 151.
Taking part as an individual is senior Joey Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Senator O'Connor) who managed rounds of 82 and 80 for a 162 in 76th.
Host Little Rock leads after the first round, shooting an eight-under-par 568 (289-279) on Monday. Stephen F. Austin (572) is in second place followed by Abilene Christian (581), UT Arlington (582) and EMU.
The teams will finish with 18 holes on Tuesday, March 28.
