AUGUSTA, Ga. (EMUEagles.com) - Junior Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) moved up two spots on the leaderboard in the final round Sunday, March 19, but the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team had to settle for a 13th place finish at the 3M Augusta Invitational, played at the par 72, 6,248-yard Forest Hills Golf Club.
Overall, EMU posted a 54-hole score of 932 (311-306-315), which was tied with Coastal Carolina University. No. 23 Purdue overtook No. 33 Tennessee to win with 294 for a three-day total of 878. No. 45 August finished seven strokes back with a score of 885 in third.
Beck collected her second top-20 showing of the year in the star-studded field. The native of France fired a final round 76 for a total of 224 (75-73-76). Senior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) tied for 30th with a 228 (74-78-76), as Augusta's Jessica Haigwood won the event with a tournament record 12-under 204 (71-66-67).
Freshman Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne) managed an 81 for a three-day tally of 235 (76-78-81) in 56th. Rounding out the scoring for EMU were sophomores Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) and Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymongkhon School) who finished in 76th and 77th place, respectively.
The Eagles will return to action in a week,March 27-28, at the Henssler Intercollegiate in Kennesaw, Ga.
