YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -
The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team will conclude the indoor season where they began back in December, heading west to Allendale, Mich. for the GVSU Tune-Up, Friday, Feb. 17.  The meet will give Eastern one last opportunity to compete before playing host to the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships next week, Feb. 24-25.

Last week, the Eagles were split among the GVSU Big Meet, Feb. 10, and the Iowa State Classic, Feb. 10-11. EMU finished the GVSU Big Meet in eighth as a team with 25 points, while five runners in Ames turned in some very strong performances.

In Iowa, senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia - Lyceum #83) finished third in the 3000m, nabbing a third-place finish with a time of 9:15.03, which was a personal-best and moved her closer to the top-spot in the EMU record books. Junior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison) broke yet another record for the Eagles, this time in the 5000m run invite.  The Davison, Mich. native finished second, crossing the finish line in a career-best 15:50.16 to break the EMU record in the event.

Additionally, junior Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich. – Chippewa Valley) and sophomore Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind. – Zionsville Community) ran in the mile invite. Cizmas posted a seventh-place finish, clocking in at 4:41.94, which was just behind her personal-best, while Meyers secured ninth, crossing the finish line in 4:46.69, which was a career-best and the eighth-best mark in the EMU record books. Finally, junior Rebekah Branham (Circleville, Ohio – Circleville) ran in the 800m run. Branham had a strong performance in the race, turning in a 27th-place finish with a career-best time of 2:12.15. Not only was her mark a personal-best, but it was also the ninth-quickest time in the EMU record books.

In Allendale, sophomore Jessica Harris (Slidell, La. - Slidell) and freshman Brittni Mason (Richmond Heights, Ohio - West Geauga) finished first and second in the 60m dash finals with times of 7.58 and 7.63, respectively. Junior Tifani Byrd (Toms River, N.J. - Toms River North) took part in the 60m hurdles, nabbing fourth in the finals with a time of 8.79 seconds. In the pole vault, senior Natalie Uy (Kettering, Ohio - Fairmont) brought home the silver, finishing with a vault of 3.81 meters/ 12 feet 6-inches.

Bogdanova also jumped into the top-25 of the Division I Indoor Qualifying List according to the Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS). Her 3000m time of 9:15.03 from the Iowa State Classic currently ranks No. 24 in the nation, while she also maintains the No. 50 spot in the 5000m. Most impressively, McDermitt maintains a top-five spot in the 5000m, as she currently holds the No. 4 slot with her excellent time of 15:50.16.

The GVSU Tune-Up is scheduled to begin at 2:45 p.m. with the men's high jump, while other field events and running events will start at 3 p.m. To view the complete schedule of events, please click here.
