Eagles Wrap Up Regular Season at GVSU Tune-Up

ALLENDALE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team concluded the indoor regular season, Friday, Feb. 17, with the GVSU Tune-Up in Allendale, Mich. Eastern rested a good amount of the team in preparation for next week's Mid-American Conference Championships, giving other student-athletes an opportunity to compete.
Junior Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa. – Hempfield Area) nabbed a spot in the 60m dash finals, placing second in the prelims with a time of 7.74 seconds. In the finals, Jones finished atop the podium with a time of 7.62 seconds, which was just behind her career-best.
In the 200m dash, redshirt sophomore Emiesha Burrell (Ecorse, Mich. - Anderson) had a solid race, notching a third-place finish with a career-best time of 26.00 seconds. Behind Burrell, sophomore Jocelyn Sharpe (Westerville, Ohio – Westerville North) also finished in the top-10, taking seventh with a personal-best time of 26.53 seconds.
Junior Rebekah Branham (Circleville, Ohio – Circleville) ran in the indoor 400m dash for the first time, finishing third with a career-best time of 57.96 seconds. Sharpe also had a strong day in the 400m, turning in a fifth-place finish with a personal-best time of 58.53 seconds. In the mile, senior Anna Aldrich (Fremont, Ind. – Fremont) turned in the best mile of her career, finishing in second-place with a personal-best time of 5:01.10.
In the 60m hurdles prelims, junior Tifani Byrd (Toms River, N.J. – Toms River North) also secured a finals berth, clocking in at 8.76 seconds in the prelims to finish second. Byrd matched her prelims finish in the finals, ultimately taking second with a finals mark of 8.78 seconds. In the high jump, junior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) turned in a third-place finish, completing a jump of 1.60 meters/ 5 feet 3-inches.
A pair of Eagles also turned in some solid performances in the pole vault, as sophomore Rebekah Carr (Celina, Ohio – Celina) snagged second with a vault of 3.45 meters/ 11 feet 3.75-inches. Freshman Kristine Bourg (Shorewood, Ill. – Joliet West) finished sixth in the event, posting a mark of 3.30 meters/ 10 feet 10-inches. Freshman Catherine Mittiga (South Bend, Ind. – John Adams) paced the Eagles in the long jump, posting a mark of 4.87 meters/ 15 feet 11.75-inches.
Finally, the Green and White had two throwers compete in the weight throw. Sophomore Jada Taylor (Neptune, N.J. – Neptune) was the team's top finisher in the event, taking 17th with a throw of 13.75 meters/ 45 feet 1.5-inches. Senior Megan Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio – Woodmoore) also took part in the event, finishing with a mark of 13.57 meters/ 44 feet 6.25-inches.
Next week, EMU plays host to the MAC Indoor Championships in Bowen Field House, Feb. 24-25, as the Eagles will look to defend their title after taking home the indoor crown last season.
