PHILADELPHIA (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team returns to competition this Sunday, Nov. 19, for the annual Keystone Classic hosted by the University of Pennsylvania at the historic Palestra in Philadelphia. Action is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
12 teams will battle in what is one of the country's premier early-season tournaments. Converging to the "City of Brotherly Love" are Appalachian State, Drexel, Duke, Franklin & Marshall, Harvard, Northwestern, Penn State, Rider, Sacred Heart, VMI, and host Pennsylvania. EMU will send 15 total wrestlers to the mats over the course of the day in what will be a good early season test against some top competition.
Last season, EMU had a strong day as they finished third out of 12 teams, including placing eight wrestlers in the top-six of their respective weight classes. Leading the way was then-junior Kyle Springer (New Boston, Mich.-Davenport Assumption (Indiana)) who took the 141 lbs. crown by winning all four matches, including one over nationally ranked Jimmy Gulibon of Penn State.
Live results and a live stream will be available on FloWrestling. Live bracket updates are free through FloArena, while the stream requires a FloPro subscription. All the action will also be live tweeted on the official EMU wrestling account, @EMUWrestling.
