OXFORD, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)
– The No. 25 Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team captured its third Mid-American Conference Championship, Saturday, Oct. 28, in Oxford, Ohio. The team score of 45 points ties the second-best score in program history, while the title serves as the third consecutive championship for the Eagles.  "I'm really proud of this team," said Head Coach Sue Parks. "We dealt with some adversity over the summer and early fall and our season didn't start out the way it did last year. I give the girls a lot of credit for staying positive and being patient with the results. This wasn't a perfect race for us but the effort was there and we're thrilled to win our third straight title. I'm really happy for this incredible group of girls who have truly put our program on the map."

EMU had a dominating performance in the conference race, placing four harriers within the top-10, and two inside the top-five. Senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia-Lyceum #83) led the Eagles with a second-place finish in 20:50.2, which is nine seconds and a place higher than her finish in last year's event. Her performance earned her First Team All-MAC honors for the third time in her career, as she was an individual champion in 2015 and finished third in 2016.

Senior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich.-Davison) finished with the team's second-best performance, placing fourth in 20:57.0. A year removed from her Individual MAC Championship title, McDermitt's fourth-place finish was the same outcome from the 2015 meet, and five places better than her performance in 2014. All in all, with this year's performance, McDermitt has now earned First Team All-MAC honors in the last three years of competition.

Rounding out the Eagles in the top-10, was junior Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich.-Chippewa Valley) who placed ninth with a time of 21:09.1 to earn Second Team All-MAC honors. Junior Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville Community) followed close behind Cizmas, capturing Second Team All-MAC honors as well with an 11th-place finish in a season-best 21:18.9. It marked the second time in Meyers' career that the Zionsville, Ind. native has earned All-MAC honors.

Senior Anna Aldrich (Fremont, Ind.-Fremont) also finished out her conference competition as an Eagle in a strong manner, as she was the fifth Eagle to cross the finish line, cracking the top-20 and contributing a 19th-place finish to the team's score. Her time of 21:36.3 was a season best and 14 seconds faster than her run in last year's event.

Another senior running in the last conference competition of her career, Jenna Wyns (Londerzeel, Belgium-Sportschool KA2) notched a top-30 finish in the pool of over 100 runners. Wyns placed 26th in 21:53.0, besting her 2016 finish of 22:04.1. Junior Allie Knoll (Warren, Mich.-Warren Mott) also topped her performance from a year ago, placing 36th in 22:11.1, which is 33 seconds and four places better than last year's conference championship.

Tarynn Cullings (Medina, Ohio-Medina) and Madison Distelrath (Fort Wayne, Ind.-Homestead) acted as the only freshmen competing in the title race, finishing 48th and 56th, respectively, and finishing out the runners for EMU.

Along with Bogdanova and McDermitt earning First Team All-MAC honors, Head Coach Sue Parks captured MAC Cross Country Women's Head Coach of the Year for the fourth time in her career and third time as the leader of EMU.
The Green and White will have a week of rest but will kick back into action for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Friday, Nov. 10, in Terre Haute, Ind.
