- The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team raced to a fourth-place finish Friday, Nov. 10, at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship in Terre Haute, Ind. The Eagles placed two inside the top-15 en route to the second-best regional team score in program history, 146 points.

"I was pleased with our finish," Head Coach Sue Parks said. "It was a total team effort. We put ourselves in good position the first half of the race and battled hard to the finish. It's been a tough season for us with several girls coming back from setbacks so it's very satisfying to finish one place higher than last year. I couldn't be more proud of this team and the progress that they made throughout the season. The girls gave it all that they had today."

Senior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich.-Davison) led the Green and White with a fifth-place finish and a time of 20:46, matching her fifth-place finish in last year's competition. Redshirt senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia-Lyceum #83) also put together a strong performance, finishing seven places higher than in last year's competition, notching an 11th-place finish with a time of 20:53. With the two finishing within the top-25, they both earned all-region honors for the third consecutive season.

Junior Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville Community) ran strong to a 36th-place finish, crossing in 21:21, crushing her time from 2016's event by 18 seconds. Redshirt junior Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich.-Chippewa Valley) rounded out the EMU runners inside the top-50, as she finished 40th in 21:25, improving her time from last year by two seconds. Senior Jenna Wyns (Londerzeel, Belgium-Sportschool KA2) was the fifth Eastern harrier to clock in, posting a time of 21:38 to claim 56th place.

Also running for EMU were redshirt senior Anna Aldrich (Fremont, Ind.-Fremont) and redshirt junior Allie Knoll (Warren, Mich.-Warren Mott), who finished 89th and 94th in 22:16 and 22:22, respectively.

As the Eagles did not end up securing a top-two finish, they will now wait to see if they have earned an at-large bid to the upcoming NCAA Championships, which will be announced this weekend. If they do qualify as a team, it would mark just the third time in program history that the team qualified to the meet. McDermitt, however, appears to be in line to secure an individual berth regardless, as she was one of the top four finishers in the region not on an automatic-qualifying team.

The NCAA Championships are scheduled to be held next week, Saturday, Nov. 18, in Louisville, Ky.
