Ross and Collins Tie for 11th, Eagles Climb to Fourth

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. (EMUEagles.com) – After a slow start to the University of Louisville's Cardinal Challenge, senior Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) flipped the script Sunday, Oct. 1, on the par-72, 7,192-yard University of Louisville Golf Club course. Ross closed out the weekend with a sizzling six-under 66, a mark that is tied for the 10th lowest single-round tally in program history, to tie for 11th-place with a 54 hole mark of 219 (79-74-66). Meanwhile, freshman Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) was the model of consistency posting a trio of 73s for a cumulative 219 for his first career top-15 showing.
Behind the strength of the duo, the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team finished in fourth with a three-day mark of 880 (299-298-283). Sunday's final round was just the eighth such total in school-history and is 29th-best in the all-time annals.
Host Louisville took home the hardware with a 855 (286-286-283) followed by Miami (866), Eastern Kentucky (876) and EMU. The RedHawks' Patrick Flavin finished nine-under 207 (68-69-70) to win the individual title.
Junior Beau Breault (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) picked up another top-20 finish in a tie for 18th at 221 (75-75-71). Freshman Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) and sophomore Zach Sudinsky (McKinney, Texas-Boyd-Stephen F. Austin) rounded out the lineup with a 225 (76-76-73) and a 231 (75-78-78), respectively. Playing as an individual in his collegiate debut, freshman Tyler Rayman (Ostego, Mich.-Ostego) was 71st with a 238 (77-81-80).
The Eagles return to action at the Windon Memorial, Oct. 8-9, in Skokie, Ill.
