Guilleux Paces the EMU Attack at Fossum Invitational

Sophpmore records her first career top five showing
EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team finished in seventh-place on the final leaderboard Sunday afternoon, Sept. 25, in the 33rd Annual Mary Fossum Invitational at Forest Akers West Golf Course. EMU's two-day total of 923 (310-305-308) kept them behind the University of Miami, which recorded a final tally of four-under 860 (286-283-291) to win the tournament.
Leading the way for the Green and White was sophomore Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval), who carded a 74 on the final 18 holes. The Saint Maur Des Fosse, France native finished the 54-hole tournament at three-over 219 (74-71-74) to place fifth. It marked the first time in her young career Guilleux finished inside the top five, meanwhile she shattered her previous career low of 225 (76-79-70) at the 2016 MAC Championships, April 22-24.
The Hurricanes' Dewi Weber took home individual medalist honors with a four-under 212 (72-70-70).
Senior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) followed for EMU shooting a 76 this afternoon, as she finished in a three-way tie for 11th with a final score of 223 (76-71-76). Freshman Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne) tied for 51st in her first collegiate tournament with a 240 (81-78-80).
Junior Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) carded an 80 on the final day to finish tied for 57th with a 243 (79-84-80) and sophomore Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymongkhon School) added a 244 (81-85-78) for 59th.
Playing as individuals, redshirt junior Brenna Hammond (West Bloomfield, Mich.-Detroit Mercy) tied for 60th with a 245 (83-78-84) followed by freshman Julia Stevenson (Milford, Mich.-Milford) in 69th at 251 (84-86-81).
Eastern Michigan will compete next at the Kzoo Classic hosted by Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Oct. 3-4.
