Four Eagles in the Top 10 at the Kzoo Classic

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Junior Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) fired an opening day total of 144 (72-72) to lead the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team Monday, Oct. 3, at the Kzoo Classic. Beck sits in second-place, while the Eagles sit atop the leaderboard as a team with a 591 (293-298) on the par-72, 6,163 yard Moors Golf Club course.
Behind Beck, sophomore Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymongkhon School) recorded a two round total of 148 (73-75) to sit in a tie for fourth place. Senior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) and freshman Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne) are tied for ninth with a 151, while sophomore Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) is in 17th-place with a 155 (75-80).
Competing as an individual, redshirt junior Brenna Hammond (West Bloomfield, Mich.-Detroit Mercy) shot an 81 and an 82 for a two round tally of 163.
The Eagles have a chance to challenge the program's 54-hole program low of 880 set just last year at the Cardinal Classic, Sept. 21-22. Head Coach Pina Gentile's squad would need to shoot a 289-or-better in the final round.
Ball State University shot a 604 (302-302) and sits 13 strokes behind Eastern Michigan. Ohio University is third with a 607 (305-302) followed by Cleveland State University (305-310=615) and host Western Michigan University (313-304=617). Ohio's Hailey Hrynewich holds down the top on the leader board with a two-under par 142 (71-71).
The third and final round of the Kzoo Classic will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4.
