EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's golf will travel to Michigan State University to compete in the 33rd Annual Mary Fossum Invitational, Sept. 24-25. Competition will take place at the par 72, 6,236-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course with day one set to begin with an 8:30 shotgun start, while Sunday's round will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

Joining EMU and MSU will be Akron, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Georgia Southern, Indiana, Miami (Fla.), Northern Illinois, Ohio, Princeton, Western Michigan and Xavier. The field includes three top-60 teams in Golfweek's Sept. 12 rankings, led by No. 33 Miami, No. 42 Michigan State and No. 58 Indiana.

The event marks the sixth-consecutive year that the Green and White has opened up its season in East Lansing and the ninth-straight year that the Eagles have competed in the invitational. EMU's best finish came in the 2011-12 season when the team took eighth overall, shooting a 942 (304-317-321), while the Eagles finished 10th during the 2013-14 campaign, carding a three-round score of 934 (311-309-314).

Second-year Head Coach Pina Gentile it taking her entire squad north to take part in the tournament. Scheduled to compete for the Green and White are senior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth), junior Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne), sophomore Penelope Guilleux  (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval), sophomore Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymongkhon School) and freshman Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne). Playing as an individual and making her EMU debut will be redshirt junior Brenna Hammond (West Bloomfield, Mich.-Detroit Mercy) and freshman Julia Stevenson (Milford, Mich.-Milford).

The Mary Fossum Invitational, which began in 1978, is held annually at Michigan State's Forest Akers West Golf Course in September. Named after Michigan State's longtime head coach from 1973-97, the invitational features the top teams in the Midwest. Michigan State has won the event 10 times, including seven of the last 10.
