Derek Ziegenfuss Set to Compete at USATF Junior Outdoor Championships

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team will be represented by freshman Derek Ziegenfuss (Allentown, Pa. - Parkland) at the USA Track & Field Junior Outdoor Championships this weekend, June 24-26, in Clovis, Calif.
Ziegenfuss, who had a stellar freshman campaign with the Eagles, will compete in the javelin throw. The Allentown, Pa. native earned First Team All-Mid-American Conference honors in his debut season in which he was crowned the MAC Champion in the javelin throw with a mark of 67.44 meters/ 221 feet 3-inches. Not only was his throw at the conference championships the best of his career, but it was also the best throw in program history.
The MAC Freshman Field Performer of the Year concluded his season by qualifying to compete at the NCAA East Regional, May 26-28, where he finished 26th after notching a throw of 62.77 meters/ 205 feet 11- inches.
Ziegenfuss will compete in the javelin throw tonight, June 24, at 7:30pm pacific time, or 10:30pm eastern time. For more information on the meet, please click here.
