AVON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University baseball team won its third game in as many days, claiming a 10-5 victory over Kent State University, to force a decisive second semifinal game later tonight at All Pro Freight Stadium.

The Eagles (23-35) had to battle back and forth in the game, but ultimately the strength of the offense and their 12 hits carried the day.  It was Eastern's third straight double-digit hitting effort of the tournament, and it included three home runs, the fourth three-plus home run game for EMU this season.

Leading the Eagles on offense was senior co-captain Tony DiLeo (Rockford, Mich.-Rockford), who had a 3-for-4 game, his first career three-hit game, which included his second home run of the year, and three RBI's.  He also was stout defensively, throwing out two base stealers.  Fellow senior Austin Wilson (Valrico, Fla.-Bloomingdale Sr.) also clubbed a homer in a two-hit, two-RBI game.  It was his first homer of the season, and first since April 10, 2015.

The third homer of the game came courtesy of redshirt junior Michael Mioduszewski (Dexter, Mich.-Dexter), one of his two hits.  His ninth of the season was one of two RBI's for the outfielder.  Finally, sophomore Brennan Williams (Commerce Township, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) had two RBI's with a single in the eighth.

Not to be outdone on the mound, junior Sam Delaplane (San Jose, Calif.-Leigh) earned his team-leading sixth win of the season after completing the final three innings without giving up a run.  The righty only yielded two hits and struck out three.

Kent State (43-13) was first on the board with a lead-off home run to left center, giving the Flashes an early 1-0 lead.  Freshman starting pitcher Davis Feldman (Warren, Mich.-Brother Rice) battled back though to get the next three batters in the inning, two on strikeouts.

The Eagle offense picked up the freshman starter in the bottom half of the first with a pair of solo home runs of their own to capture a 2-1 lead.  First was Wilson who drilled a homer to left field that bounced off the left fielders glove, going over the wall for his first homer of the season.  One batter later, Mioduszewski smacked an opposite field dinger to right that nailed the scoreboard and gave EMU the one-run advantage.

EMU stole a run in the second, capitalizing on a KSU miscue.  With runners on the corners after singles from Dileo and sophomore David Lett (Farmington Hills, Mich.-North  Farmington), the Flashes threw down to third to check the runner after a steal of second, but the throw went wild, allowing DiLeo to score from third.

Eastern scored in their third consecutive inning in the third with a bases loaded knock from DiLeo.  After three straight singles, the catcher laced a liner through the left side, scoring senior Mitchell McGeein (Calgary, Alberta-Vauxhall) from third and extending EMU's lead to 4-1 into the fourth inning.  On the mound, Feldman only gave up one more hit in the first four innings, while striking out two more as well.

The rookie got the first out of the fifth inning, but then walked a pair, forcing the decision to go to the pen.  After a sacrifice bunt, a single plated a pair for Kent, closing the gap to 4-3 headed into the bottom of the fifth.

One of the runs was earned back in the bottom half of the fifth on EMU's third home run of the contest.  This time, DiLeo knocked a solo shot to deep left field; his second of the season, to put EMU back up by two, 5-3.

The Flashes' offense wasn't done yet however, as they powered for two more runs on a double, triple and RBI groundout, tying the game at five apiece into the bottom of the sixth.

The seventh and eighth innings went scoreless for Kent State behind the arm of Delaplane.  The top half of the eighth was decided on a couple of nice defensive plays from EMU.  First, after a throwing error on a bunt attempt that sailed into right field, the Kent runner tried to get to third, but a laser throw from junior Jeremy Stidham (Colorado Springs, Colo.-Sand Creek (Colby C.C.)) put him down for the first out.  Later in the frame, with a runner on first, DiLeo threw out his second would be base stealer of the game with a perfect throw, ending the top half of the eighth.

This allowed Eastern to recapture the lead in the bottom of the eighth with five huge runs.  A lead-off walk got things started in the inning, followed by a sacrifice bunt and infield single to put runners on the corners with one out.  A squeeze bunt from Wilson gave EMU its lead back, 6-5.

This was just the start, as after a hit by pitch to load the bases, back-to-back walks plated two more insurance runs for EMU, giving them an 8-5 lead.  They were not done just yet though, as the ninth batter of the inning, Williams, knocked in two more with a single up the middle, giving Eastern the five-run cushion into the final frame.

Delaplane came back out for his third inning of work, and was just as solid as the first two, going one-two-three inning with a strikeout, giving Eastern the five-run victory.

Eastern now returns for the second semifinal game later tonight against Kent State.  First pitch from All-Pro Freight Stadium will be determined at a later time.
