YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University baseball team completes its 2016 regular season when it travels down to Toledo, Ohio for a three-game series against the University of Toledo.  The series begins Thursday, May 19 with a 3 p.m. first pitch.  Game two is Friday, May 20, another 3 p.m. start time.  The regular season finale is Saturday, May 21, a 1 p.m. first pitch. The action can be followed via live stats and by live stream on ESPN 3.  Live audio is also available on EMU All-Access with Greg Steiner and Chad Bush on the call.  Play by play can be followed on our Twitter account, @EMU_Baseball.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS TOLEDO: Eastern and UT have met 148 times in their respective histories.  EMU leads the all-time series by a 91-57 tally.  The two schools have met every season since 1977, with Toledo winning their most recent series in 2015, taking two of three from Eastern.  EMU won the final game of that series, 10-7, May 16.

SCOUTING THE ROCKETS: Toledo enters the weekend tied with Eastern Michigan for sixth place in the Mid-American Conference with a 10-11 mark in conference play.  They have won six of their last seven conference games, including taking two of three from Ball State last weekend.  Their home record sits at 4-8 on the season.

The Rockets are second to last in the conference in batting average, with a .240 mark as a team.  They are being outhit 506-424, and outscored 309-210.  The offense is led by Deion Tansel, who is the only UT player hitting above .300 with a .317 average including 64 hits.

The UT pitching staff is in the middle of the pack in the MAC with a 5.18 staff ERA.  They allow opponents to hit .291 and have a 294-237 strikeout to walk ratio.  The projected weekend rotation holds ERA's of 3.32, 4.53 and 5.72.

ONE IS THE MAGIC NUMBER: With three games remaining in the conference season, the Eagles' magic number to make the 2016 MAC Tournament is one.  With a win, or an Ohio University loss, the Eagles will officially clinch a berth in the tournament as a top-eight seed.  EMU has not made the MAC Tournament since 2012.

SEEDING SCENARIOS: If Eastern Michigan is to make the MAC tournament, the Eagles could finish the regular season anywhere between the fourth seed and the eighth seed depending on how the final games of the weekend play out.  Kent State, Ball State and Northern Illinois have already clinched the top three seeds respectively.

IMPROVING ON THE BUMP: In his second season as the primary pitching coach, Head Coach Mark Van Ameyde's pitching staff has shown remarkable improvement from year one to year two.  The current staff ERA of 4.92 is more than one run better than in 2015, when the team finished with a 5.98 mark.  In addition, the Eagles have given up 111 fewer hits and 74 fewer runs than in 2015 and have 46 more strikeouts.  EMU is also just 11 strikeouts away from ranking in the top-10 in program history for a single season.

DAZZLING ROOKIE: Freshman Tyler Butzin has been the brightest star of a talented class of newcomers for the Eagles this season.  The 'true' freshman ranks ninth in the conference in ERA with a 3.09 mark, which is also the top ERA for any freshman starting pitcher in the MAC.  He leads the team with 70.0 innings pitched, including nine starts, and also has a save to his credit this season.  He struck out a career-best nine batters against Ball State, May 8.

TRACKING THE TATERS: Senior Mitchell McGeein entered his final season with 19 career homers, good for 20th on the all-time EMU list.  He currently leads the team with 11 home runs this season, putting him in a tie for fifth-place all-time with 30.

SENIORS STEPPING UP: In the final weeks of the season, a pair of seniors are stepping up to lead the team as their careers come to a close.  First, Austin Wilson has started the last 18 games for EMU, collecting a hit in 16 of the 18.  In that span he leads the team in batting average (.350) and hits (24), while stealing a team-high eight bases.  He has also not committed an error in 51 putouts.

Meanwhile, Tony Dileo is currently on a seven game hitting streak, and is hitting .391 in that span, raising his average from .148 to .260.

RUN EAGLES RUN: EMU has been alert and impactful on the base paths this season, as the team currently ranks third in the country in steals (116).  In addition, redshirt junior Marquise Gill is sixth in the nation with 33 steals on the season.  The 116 steals this season are the sixth most in program history.  The program record was set in 1981, and tied in 2004, with 147.

EAGLES DIG THE LONG BALL: EMU currently ranks 67th in the nation, and fourth in the MAC, in home runs with 40 as a team this season.  Individually, senior Mitchell McGeein has hit a team-high 11 so far, which is sixth in the MAC and 62nd in the country.  The Eagles hit a season-high four home runs in the win over BGSU, March 27.

MOVING UP THE RECORD BOOK: A trio of Eagles are rewriting the record books in 2016 with their season and career performances.  In addition to being on the career home runs list, senior Mitchell McGeein is on the career list for walks with 87 (T-13th), doubles with 37 (16th), RBI's with 108 (T-17th), and at-bats with 632 (17th).  Junior closer Sam Delaplane is tied for fifth on the career saves list with 10 in his three years, as well as the all-time wins list, ranking T-23rd with 11.  Redshirt junior Marquise Gill is second in single-season stolen bases with 33, with his career total of 43 ranking 15th all-time.  Senior Austin Wilson is also on the all-time steals list, currently ranking 16th all-time with 39 swipes.

SENDING THE SENIORS OFF IN STYLE: In the final home game of 2016, redshirt junior Michael Mioduszewski sent the senior class off with a bang, clubbing a solo home run in the ninth for a walk-off win over NIU, 3-2.  It was Mioduszewski's second home run of the game, marking the second time he has had two-home runs in a game this season.  It was also the first walk-off home run for EMU since 2012.

MAC TOURNAMENT ON THE HORIZON: Should EMU make the 2016 MAC Tournament, the five-day event will kick off Wednesday, May 25 from All-Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio.  First pitch of the first game is set for 9 a.m.
