Poor Weather Hinders Play at Kepler Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Battling less than ideal conditions for play, the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team fired an opening round 310 Saturday, April 9, to sit in 14th place after the first day of the of the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate on the a par-71, 7,455-yard OSU Golf Club's Scarlet Course.
The tournament, which was previously shortened to just 36 holes, was delayed by more than five hours due to inclement weather that was more familiar with late-November than early-April. EMU shot a 310 and trails No. 31 ranked UNLV by 21 strokes heading into Sunday's final round. Host Ohio State is second (291), followed by No. 37 UAB (293), No. 49 Michigan State (293), No. 46 Kent State (299), and No. 29 Penn State (299).
Senior Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) fired a 74 for 23rd place while freshman Beau Breault (Howell, Mich.-Hartland) is tied for 40th after a 76. Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) and Philippe Weppernig (Lucerne, Switzerland-Kantonsschule Alpenquai Luzern-Owens C.C.) are tied for 69th with identical rounds of 80s. Junior Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) also finished with an 81 in 75th place..
Golfers will tee off Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. in a shotgun start for the final round of play.
