Spartan Invitational Information

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
With the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational in the rearview mirror, the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team now turns its attention towards the Spartan Invitational, April 8-9. After spending the first two meets in North Carolina and Ohio, the Green and White will return to the state of Michigan for its third meet of the outdoor season.

Last weekend, the Eagles captured third as a team down in Cincinnati with 106 points. The team had a number of great performances throughout the two days. Redshirt senior Keith Williams (Sherman, Ill. – Williamsville) got the action started on the first day, winning the hammer throw with a mark of 60.10 meters/ 197 feet 2.25-inches. Day two saw more success for Eastern, as graduate student Joshua Sabo (Akron, Ohio – Revere) took the 800m title with a time of 1:55.51, while freshman Derek Ziegenfuss (Allentown, Pa. – Parkland) dominated the field in the javelin throw. Not only was Ziegenfuss' throw of 66.09 meters/ 216 feet 10-inches good for gold by over 35 feet, but it was also the second-best in EMU history.

The Spartan Invite is slated to begin Friday, April 8, at 11 a.m. with the pole vault in Jenison Fieldhouse due to the possibility of inclement weather. Action will resume Saturday, April 9, at 9:40 a.m. with the 1500m. The meet is scheduled to conclude at 4:40 p.m. with the 4x400m relay. For more information on the meet, please click here.
