Beck and Murphy Lead the Way at The Kingsmill Intercollegiate

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (EMUEagles.com) -- Behind the solid play of sophomore Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) and junior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth), the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team finished in a two-way tie for 10th place at Kingsmill Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary University with a 54-hole mark of 950 (318-315-317) Tuesday, March 29, on the par-72 Kingsmill-River Course.
Beck and Murphy each fired a two-day total of 234 in 25th place, making EMU one of just eight teams in the tournament to boast a multiple top 25 finishers. Murphy's has finished inside the top 25 at each of her eight tournaments played this season while Beck has done so in all but one of them in 2015-16.
The University of Toledo captured its fifth tournament title with a 908 (304-296-308) to finish eight-stroke ahead of Penn (309-305-302=916). William & Mary finished third (923) followed by Boston University (925) and Delaware (939). The Rockets' Sathika Ruenreong claimed a one-shot win over WM's Alessandra Liu with a one-over 217.
Senior Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) finished with a final round 239 (81-80-78) in 36th place while (81-80) while freshman Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) tied for 67th at 246 (80-85-81). Rounding out the rotation, senior Lauren Stephens (Dublin, Ohio-Coffman-Toledo) managed a 249 (83-82-84) in a tie for 74th.
Head Coach Pina Gentile and her squad close out the regular season with a trip to the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational, April 9-10, in Bowling Green, Ohio. Eastern Michigan then hosts the Mid-American Conference Championships, April 22-24, in Noblesville, Ind.
