Fink was recently named a Second Team All-American
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Mid-American Conference announced today, March 16, that Eastern Michigan University men's track and field redshirt junior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio - Maumee) was named Scholar Athlete of the Week for the period ending March 13.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented weekly to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition.
This award is the third of Fink's career, and the first for the men's track and field team this season. The redshirt junior currently maintains a 3.87 GPA while studying biology.
Fink ran in the 3000m at the NCAA Indoor Championships this past weekend, March 11-12, helping the team to a 58th place finish, tying Michigan and Penn State, while also beating Alabama, Notre Dame, and Illinois.
Individually, Fink crossed the finish line in 11th with a time of 8:07.81, just five seconds out of the top-three. By placing 11th, Fink also earned Second Team All-American honors, adding to his All-American Honorable Mention accolade from the outdoor season of last year. Additionally, the redshirt junior is the first Eagle to earn an All-American honor in the event since 2004. He was also the only representative of the MAC in the race.
The Eagles have finished their indoor season, and now have a short break until the outdoor season. The team resumes action with the Florida Relays and the Stanford Invitational, March 31.
