Eagles Finish 58th as Fink Receives Second Team All-American Honors

The Green and White closed out the indoor season by besting a number of widely-known programs

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team concluded their indoor season today, March 12, with the second day of the NCAA Indoor Championships. The Eagles had one distance runner compete in the 3000m on the day.
With the duo of redshirt juniors Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio - Maumee) and Anthony Jones (Sandusky, Ohio - Sandusky), EMU finished 58th as a team in the nation with a total of 2.0 points, tying Michigan and Penn State, while also beating Alabama, Notre Dame, and Illinois.
Fink represented the Green and White on the track in one of the final races on the day. The Maumee, Ohio native got off to a quick start, as he led the field at the 1600m mark. Ultimately, Fink crossed the finish line in 11th, posting a time of 8:07.81, just five seconds out of the top-three.
By placing 11th, Fink also earned Second Team All-American honors, adding to his Honorable Mention accolade from the outdoor season of last year. Additionally, the redshirt junior is the first Eagle to earn an All-American honor in the event since 2004. He was also the only representative of the Mid-American Conference in the race.
This marks the conclusion of the indoor season for the Eagles. After a brief break, the Green and White will begin the outdoor season March 31 with the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla. and the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
