Eagles Close Out Strong First Day at Raleigh Relays

The Green and White got the outdoor season off to a solid start in North Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team got their outdoor season off to a great start today, March 25, with the first day of the Raleigh Relays. The Eagles had a small number of distance runners participate on the day.
The Green and White were represented by graduate student Joshua Sabo (Akron, Ohio – Revere) in the 1500m. Sabo managed to clock in at 3:52.87 to place 20th in a field of over 80 runners.
Running in the 5000m, redshirt sophomore Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland / Mountain Ridge) paced the team, crossing the finish line in a career-best 14:10.56 to take 23rd in a talented field. Fellow redshirt sophomore Mitch Lenneman (River Falls, Wis. – River Falls) also took part in the race, running the 5000m for the first time and finishing in 14:24.36 for 34th. Finally, redshirt sophomore Kieran Reilly (Dover, Great Britain - Dover Grammar School for Boys) made his Eagle debut, crossing the finish line in 14:44.94 for a personal-best mark.
Moving to the 10000m, redshirt junior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio – Maumee) had a fantastic race, taking home bronze in a talented field with a personal-best time of 29:04.92. Not only was his time a career-best by nearly an entire minute, but it was also the fifth-fastest in the EMU record books. Following Fink, redshirt sophomore Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich. – Mason) took 12th after crossing the finish line in 29:30.06, while sophomore Csaba Matko (Racalmas, Hungary - Szechenyi Istvan Gimnazium) nabbed 19th in 29:41.70. Based on his performance, Raymond moved into eighth in program history as well. Rounding out the team was redshirt sophomore John Knox (Gloversville, N.Y. – Gloversville) and redshirt sophomore Lahsene Bouchikhi (Antwerp, Belgium - Stedelijk Lyceum Paardenmarkt Luchthaven) in 33rd and 56th, respectively.
The Green and White continue action at the Raleigh Relays tomorrow, March 26. The day begins at 10 a.m., and is slated to finish with the women's 4x400m relay at 4:50 p.m.
