BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (EMUEagles.com) –
Redshirt junior Anthony Jones (Sandusky, Ohio – Sandusky) of the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team got the Eagles off to a fantastic start at the NCAA Indoor Championships today, March 11. Despite only competing in one event, he made it count, earning All-American status as the only Mid-American Conference competitor in the event.

Jones competed in the first event on the day, which was the weight throw. After taking the MAC crown, Feb. 26, Jones came into the national championship seeded ninth. He then proceeded to post a throw of 21.52 meters/ 70 feet 7.25-inches, improving upon his seeding by finishing seventh. He was also less than half of a meter away from posting a top-five finish. Additionally, Jones improved upon his finish last season, where he placed 13th and nabbed Second Team All-American honors. Finally, he was the first EMU competitor in the indoor weight throw to earn All-American status since 1998.

The Green and White continue the meet tomorrow, March 12, where redshirt junior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio – Maumee) will run in the 3000m at 6:10 p.m. Live results can be found by clicking here.
