WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) -
Junior Alex Chan (Toronto, Ontario-Neil McNeil Catholic) paced the Eastern Michigan University men's diving team on the 1-meter springboard on day two of the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships. All four Eagles finished inside the top-16 in the event after advancing to the finals, tying Ohio State University for the most finalists.

Chan led the way for the Green and White, totaling 665.90 points after scoring 340.65 in prelims. The Mid-American Conference's Outstanding Diver ranked fifth in the field, earning an automatic qualifying position to the NCAA Championships in Atlanta, Ga. later this month. With the AQ, Chan will compete at nationals for the second consecutive season.

Freshman Tom Gillis (Halfiax, Nova Scotia-Citadel), senior Dan Gironza (South Lyons, Mich.-South Lyon), and sophomore Peter Rusenas (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville Central) joined Chan in the finals. Gillis placed 14th after totaling 574.75 following a 284.05 point performance in prelims. Meanwhile, Gironza and Rusenas placed 15th and 16th, respectively.

With Chan's automatic qualification Friday, and Gillis' Thursday, the Eagles will now prepare for the NCAA Championships. The duo will travel along with senior swimmer Andrew Henry (Garner, N.C.-West Johnston) to Atlanta, Ga., March 24-26.
