Green and White Look to Build on Meyo Invite Success

The Eagles continue their season with a pair of meets this weekend
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team returns to action this weekend, Feb. 12-13, with a pair of meets. The squad will be split amongst both the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Mich., as well as the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa.
This past weekend, the Eagles took part in the annual Meyo Invitational, Feb. 5-6. There, a number of Eagle competitors walked away with top-10 finishes, as well as personal-bests. Beginning on day one, the distance medley group took home 10th-place, clocking in at 11:52.04. Additionally, sophomore Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) managed to finish ninth in the long jump with a mark of 5.63 meters/ 18 feet 5.75-inches, while junior Janina Pollatz (Grandville, Mich. - Grand Rapids Christian) took seventh in the pole vault with a mark of 3.70 meters/ 12 feet 1.5-inches.
Moving onto day two, the highlight of the meet came on a pair of distance performances from junior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia - Lyceum #83) and sophomore Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison). In the mile, Bogdanova placed seventh with a time of 4:41.15, bumping her up to second all-time in EMU history. Her time also sits at No. 22 in the nation. McDermitt, on the other hand, ran in the 3000m, finishing eighth and clocking in at 9:18.86. Like Bogdanova, the sophomore's time was a personal-best, and moved her closer to overtaking the all-time EMU 3000m record held by Victoria Voronko. Finally, Dreimane finished the day with a mark of 12.47 meters/ 40 feet 11-inches in the triple jump, which notched her fourth-place.
