The Eagles wrapped up their time in South Bend with a number of personal bests

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team concluded their time at the Meyo Invitational today, Feb. 6, in South Bend, Ind. The Eagles had another solid showing, turning in a number of career-bests, along with some nationally ranked marks.
Senior Chante Roberts (Lansing, Mich. – Waverly) was the top Eagle finisher in the 400m dash, clocking in at 55.91 to take 17th and secure a new personal-best. Also turning in a solid performance was junior Khadesha James (Irvington, N.J.), who crossed the finish line in 56.58, which was also a new career-best. Sophomore Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa. – Hempfield Area), who turned in a time of 56.87 also nabbed a personal best.
Moving to the 800m, sophomore Jenna Wyns (Londerzeel, Belgium – Sportschol KA2) turned in a great performance, crossing the finish line in 2:11.10, which was a career-best. Her mark was also one of the best in EMU history, as she now ranks seventh in the record books. The race was very close, as sophomore Rebekah Branham (Circleville, Ohio – Circleville) was only two seconds behind Wyns, but finished 41st.
One of the highlights on the day came in the mile, where junior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia – Lyceum #83) broke her own personal-record in the event, clocking in at 4:41.15, which was good for seventh. Her mark also bumped her up to second all-time in EMU history, and is currently ranked No. 22 in the nation. Senior Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium – University of Leuven) was the next EMU finisher, coming in 17th with a time of 4:47.68. Freshman Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind. – Zionsville Community) turned in a personal-best time as well, crossing the finish line in 4:56.38.
The 3000m saw a great EMU performance in the form of sophomore Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. – Davison), who took eighth with a time of 9:18.86. Her time was a personal-best, and brought her closer to taking over Victoria Voronko's top 3000m time. The 4x400m relay team of James, Jones, senior Iesha Hardiman (Santa Clara, Calif. – Adrian Wilcox), and Roberts took home 10th with a time of 3:46.86.
Rounding out the day was the triple jump, in which the Eagles nabbed their top finish on the day. Sophomore Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia – Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) led the way, taking home fourth-place honors with a mark of 12.47 meters/ 40 feet 11-inches.
The Green and White will be split next week, as the team will be attending two events. Some of the team will be going to the Iowa State Invitational, Feb. 12-13, while others will head back to Allendale, Mich., Feb. 12-13, for the GVSU Big Meet.
