The Eagles have now dropped four-straight

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)  -- Eastern Michigan University's tennis team fell Saturday, Feb. 13, as Wake Forest University traveled from Winston-Salem, N.C. to take on EMU at the Chippewa Racquet Club. The Demon Deacons (9-0) swept the Eagles (2-7), 7-0, without dropping a set through the entire dual match.

"This was a big challenge for us today," Head Coach Ryan Ray said. "Wake is better than their ranking.  We did a good job at No. 2 doubles tonight, and playing some competitive sets in singles.  We just need to maintain it.  We drop a lot of 6-4 or closer sets, we need to bring that percentage up as we move forward.  We are playing good tennis as a whole, it's just time to fine tune the approach in close situations."

The match began with doubles play as the Demon Deacons' No. 1 squad handed Andrea Martinovska and Klara Supjeova a 6-0 setback, while Renu Sharma and Anna Veleva fell 6-3 in the No. 3 doubles position, giving Wake Forest the doubles point. Ani Gogvadze and Marie Mayerova led 5-4 when their match went unfinished due to the doubles point already being decided.

Moving on the singles play, Gogvadze was quickly swept by Wake Forest's Emma Davis, 6-0, 6-0, before Martinovska was on the wrong side of a 7-5, 6-1 decision in the No. 4 singles spot. Marie Mayerova then fell, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 3 which clinched the match for the Demon Deacons. Wake Forest completed the sweep of EMU by taking the No. 1, 5 and 6 matches as well.

Eastern returns to action Tuesday, Feb. 23, when they hit the road for their trip to the Sunshine State. The Eagles will first take on Florida Gulf Coast University Tuesday evening at 5 p.m. in Fort Myers, Fla.
