Eagles Fall to FGCU

The Eagles have no dropped five-straight

FORT MYERS, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University tennis team fell, 7-0, to Florida Gulf Coast University Tuesday, Feb. 23, in its first of three matches down in the Sunshine State.

The match began in doubles play where EMU's No. 1 tandem of Andrea Martinovska and Klara Supejova was handed a 7-6 setback. At No. 2 doubles, the Green and White's Marie Mayerova and Ani Gogvadze were downed 6-1 while the No. 3 doubles team made up of Anna Veleva and Renu Sharma dropped a 6-4 decision.

At No. 1 singles, Supejova was topped 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 while Gogvadze fell 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 2 position, giving FGCU the match as the teams turned to singles play. Mayerova then fell 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 3 singles spot before Marinovski was defeated by FGCU's Joselyn Treyes, 6-3, 7-6. The home team went on to take the No. 4, 5, and 6 singles matches as well to win the match, 7-0.

Eastern (2-8) now makes the short jaunt to Boca Raton, Fla. for a meeting with Florida Atlantic University, Thursday, Feb. 25. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
