The Eagles' tennis team will take on a trio of teams from Florida

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Currently riding a three-match losing streak, the Eastern Michigan University tennis team looks to get back on track this week, Feb. 23-26, as it travels south to the state of Florida for three matches during the EMU student body's break from classes. The Eagles (2-7) will square off with Florida Gulf Coast University Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 5 p.m., before heading to Boca Raton, Fla. to take on Florida Atlantic University Thursday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m. Eastern will finish up the trip to the Sunshine State with a match in Miami, Feb. 26, where the Eagles will take on Florida International University at 1 p.m.

When the Green and White arrives in Fort Myers, Fla. it will be the Eagles' second time squaring off with Florida Gulf Coast. In the only meeting with FGCU, EMU came away victorious, defeating Flordia Gulf Coast, 5-2, Feb. 25, 2009. In that match, EMU jumped out to the early lead, taking the doubles point after winning two doubles matches. With the 1-0 advantage heading into the singles, EMU went into overdrive, winning four out of six singles matches, all in straight sets.

It will be the fifth time in EMU history that the Eagles will take on FAU on Thursday afternoon. Overall, Eastern leads the series with a 3-1 advantage. In their last meeting, EMU defeated the Owls, 5-2, March 2, 2011. In the 5-2 victory, the Eagles came out in doubles play with hot racquets, winning all three matches in dominant form. Eastern also grabbed four singles wins, two of which were straight set wins.

Finally, the Green and White will take on the FIU Panthers for the ninth time in EMU history. Both squads have won four times in the all-time series, with FIU coming away with a win in the most recent contest, 7-0, Feb. 28, 2011.
