YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The 2026-27 Eastern Michigan University tennis schedule was announced today, Aug. 21, by Jeff Westmeyer, who is set to enter his first season at the helm of the program this fall.
The Eagles are slated to compete in five fall events before playing 20 spring duals, including nine home matches at the Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti and 11 road matches. All told, Eastern will face six teams that captured at least a share of a conference title in 2025 while facing three teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Additionally, the Eagles will face a pair of 'Power 4' teams on the road, including intrastate foe Michigan State University and Northwestern University, both of the Big Ten Conference.
The Eagles are slated for five fall events with the first coming at home, Sept. 25-26, with the EMU Hidden Duals. All matches will be played at the Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti with the four teams scheduled to play singles and doubles matches each day. Three events await the team in October, starting with the Michigan State Classic, Oct. 2-4, in East Lansing, Mich. From there, the Eagles will jump into championship play as they head to Champaign, Ill., Oct. 8-11, for the ITA Midwest Regional followed by a trip to Kalamazoo, Mich., Oct. 23-25, for the Mid-American Conference Individual Championships. The final fall event comes Nov. 6-8 in East Lansing at MSU's Spartan Invitational.
Following the winter break, Eastern returns to the courts for dual competition on Jan. 16 with a visit to Cleveland State University. The match is not only the first of 20 in the spring, but also is the first of six teams on the schedule that either shared or won outright a regular season title and/or won a conference tournament title in 2026 as the Vikings shared the Horizon League regular season title with three other teams last year.
Eastern opens the home portion of its schedule Jan. 22 with Eastern Kentucky University coming to town before Ferris State University comes to Ypsilanti two days later (Jan. 24). From there, the Eagles hit the road for four consecutive matches, starting Jan. 29 at Butler University. After returning to East Lansing to take on Michigan State, Feb. 6, a trip to Windy City awaits as the Eagles will face the University of Illinois-Chicago on Feb. 12 before taking on Northwestern in Evanston, Ill., Feb. 13.
The Eagles then welcome Youngstown State University, Feb. 20. The Penguins were one of the four teams that shared the regular season title in the Horizon before winning the tournament crown as the No. 3 seed and advancing to the NCAA Tournament. Eastern returns to the road for three more matches, starting Feb. 26 at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. After facing the Big East Conference regular season and conference tournament winners, Eastern will continue to head south to face Murray State University in Murray, Ky., Feb. 28, and Austin Peay State University, March 2, in Clarksville, Tenn.
The MAC schedule kicks off March 12 as the Eagles play host to Bowling Green State University with Eastern also welcoming Oakland University to Ypsilanti two days later (March 14) to finish playing the three Horizon League champions on the schedule. On March 19, the Eagles will head south to Toledo, Ohio, for a meeting with the University of Toledo, who won the 2026 MAC Tournament crown, before returning home one day later (March 20) to play host to their final non-conference match of the year with Valparaiso University visit the Chippewa Club. The final match in March will see the Eagles head west to Kalamazoo for a rival match against Western Michigan University, March 26.
The month of April has four matches scheduled with the first three at home. The month opens April 2 with a visit from the University of Massachusetts, the reigning MAC regular season champions, before Ball State University comes to town, April 9. The home finale for the Eagles comes April 16 against Miami University. The regular season concludes one week later, April 22, with a trip to face the University at Buffalo.
Following the conclusion of the regular season, the top four teams in the standings will advance to the 2027 MAC Tournament, hosted by UMass, in Amherst, Mass. The semifinals will be played May 1 with the championship match being played May 2. The winner of the tournament will earn the league's automatic berth in the 2027 NCAA Tournament.
