Program Record Paces Green and White in First Day of Competition

The distance medley group led the way for the Eagles at the Penn State National
Day One Results
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team closed out the first day of the Penn State National today, Jan. 29. The day was highlighted by the distance medley group setting a new program record in the event.
The 60m dahs saw senior Aaliyah McKinney (South Bend, Ind. – John Adams) get off to a quick start, taking home third in the prelims with a time of 7.57 and qualifying for the semifinals. She continued her success thereafter, placing fourth in the semis by clocking in at 7.56 and qualifying to the finals. McKinney then tied her prelims time of 7.57 in the finals, ultimately taking home fourth.
Sophomore Danielle Bentzley (Birmingham, Mich. – Seaholm) paced the 5000m group, coming in 12th with a time of 17:45.99. Just behind her was junior Anna Aldrich (Fremond, Ind. – Fremont) in 13th, clocking in at 17:47.95 and setting a personal record.
The highlight of the day came with the distance medley group, as the foursome of senior Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium – University of Leuven), sophomores Chante Roberts (Lansing, Mich. – Waverly) and Jenna Wyns (Londerzeel, Belgium – Sportschol KA2), and junior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia – Lyceum #83) clocked in at 11:19.41. The group bested the previous record, which was set in 2014, by 10 seconds.
The 60m hurdles group was led by senior Maya Carter (Racine, Wis. – Case) finishing 20th with a time of 8.89. Sophomore Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) found success in the long jump, taking third with a jump of 5.94 meters/ 19 feet 6.00-inches. Her mark was a new personal best, and was also good enough for ninth in EMU history.
The Green and White continue the Penn State National tomorrow, Jan. 30. Day two is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. with the women's 400m dash.
