Eagles Finish Second Day at Penn State National

The Green and White posted a number of career bests on the final day in State College

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team finished out the second day of the Penn State National today, Jan. 30. The final day of competition was highlighted by a number of career bests, including junior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia - Lyceum #83) jumping into third all-time in the 3000m.
Senior Aaliyah McKinney (South Bend, Ind. – John Adams) got the day started, taking fourth in the 200m dash invite with a time of 24.79. Additionally, sophomore Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa. – Hempfield Area) and freshman Jessica Harris (Slidell, La. – Slidell) placed fourth and sixth in the 200m with times of 24.80 and 24.93, respectively. Moving to the 400m dash, senior Morgan Yeadon (Indianapolis, Ind. – Pike) was the top Eagle finisher, placing 10th and clocking in at 56.97.
In the 500m dash, sophomore Rebekah Branham (Circleville, Ohio – Circleville) paced the four EMU competitors, taking home fourth and crossing the finish line in 1:16.38. In addition, junior Dayna Hurd (Carson, Calif. – Carson), and seniors Iesha Hardiman (Santa Clara, Calif. – Adrian Wilcox) and Maya Carter (Racine, Wis. – Case) ran in the race as well. The Eagles also had a trio run in the 800m, with freshman Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind. – Zionsville Community) finishing 12th with a time of 2:16.22.
Senior Rebecca Quaintance (White Lake, Mich. – Walled Lake Northern) was the lone Green and White runner in the 1000m run, and she managed to finish seventh with a time of 2:57.05. The distance group then took over in the mile run invite, as senior Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium – University of Leuven) nabbed bronze with a time of 4:47.59, setting a new career best in the process and moving to sixth all time in program history. In addition to Gallein, sophomores Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. – Davison) and Jenna Wyns (Londerzeel, Belgium – Sportschol KA2) took home fifth and 12th, respectively, with McDermitt claiming seventh in EMU history.
In the 3000m run invite, Bogdanova managed to finish seventh with a time of 9:26.21, putting her at third all-time in EMU history. Redshirt freshman Allie Knoll (Warren, Mich. – Warren Mott) ran in the 3000m run, also, taking 15th and clocking in at 10:30.06 for a new career best.
From there, the 4x400m relay team of junior Khadesha James (Irvington, N.J.), Jones, Yeadon, and sophomore Chante Roberts (Lansing, Mich. – Waverly) took home the gold with a time of 3:42.25. Their time was nearly three seconds faster than second place Penn State.
Moving to the high jump, junior Kristina Coyne (Pittsburgh, Pa. – Chartiers Valley) was the top EMU finisher, taking 21st with a mark of 1.63 meters/ 5-04.25. In the pole vault invite, senior Ellie Braidic (Pandora, Ohio – Pandora-Gilboa) turned in a solid mark, taking second with 4.09 meters/ 13 feet 5.0-inches. Junior Natalie Uy (Kettering, Ohio – Fairmont) also participated in the event, nabbing sixth. Junior Janina Pollatz (Grandville, Mich. – Grand Rapids Christian) also had a solid day in the pole vault, taking third with a mark of 3.85 meters/ 12 feet 7.50-inches.
Closing out the day with the triple jump, sophomore Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) nabbed sixth with a mark of 12.42 meters/ 40 feet 9.0-inches. Coyne also finished 13th with a jump of 11.33 meters/ 37 feet 2.25-inches.
The Green and White continue their season at the Meyo Invitational, Feb. 5-6. The event will take place over the two days in South Bend, Ind.
