Women's Track Continues Season on the Road

The Eagles will head to State College, Pa. for a weekend meet
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team will continue its season by traveling east for the Penn State National, Jan. 29-30. After hosting their only home meet of the year, the remaining competitions will all take place away from Ypsilanti.
Last week, the Eagles hosted the EMU Triangular, Jan. 23, taking home the team title with a final score of 140 points. The team had a number of strong performances on the day, including a sweep of the 400m. Sophomore Chante Roberts (Lansing, Mich. - Waverly) clocked in at 56.11, nearly two seconds quicker than junior Khadesha James (Irvington, N.J.) in second. In the 800m, senior Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium - University of Leuven) set a new career-best, crossing the finish line in 2:14.84 to win the event.
Junior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia - Lyceum #83) blazed through the mile in 4:41.55, putting her at No. 6 nationally in the event. Rounding out the track events, the Green and White also swept the 60m hurdles, with freshman Ayanna O'Neal (Cincinnati, Ohio - Withrow University) clocking in at 8.84 to win the event.
The triple jump and long jump were both won by sophomore Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) with marks of 12.07 meters/ 39 feet 7-inches and 5.78 meters/ 18 feet 11.5-inches, respectively. Junior Janina Pollatz (Grandville, Mich. - Grand Rapids Christian) turned in a solid mark on the pole vault at 3.92 meters/ 12 feet 10.25-inches to win the event.
The event is slated to begin Friday, Jan. 29, at 4 p.m. with the women's weight throw. On Saturday, Jan. 30, the meet resumes at 10:30 a.m. with the women's 400m dash, and is set to conclude following the final event at 5:45 p.m. For more information on the Penn State National, click here.
