YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team returned home for the EMU Triangular, Jan. 23, against Central Michigan and Oakland. EMU came out on top of the scored meet with 140 points, while Central finished second with 102. Oakland rounded out the trio with 56.

"We're happy to get the win at home," stated Head Coach Sue Parks. "We had a number of strong performances, but also some areas that need improvement.  It's still early in the season, so there's plenty of time to pull everything together.  I thought that Alsu Bogdanova and Chante Roberts were two big highlights on the track and Janina Pollatz and Dace Dreimane in the field.  We're excited to hit the road for this next stretch of big meets."

In the 60 meters, freshman Jessica Harris (Slidell, La. - Slidell) led the way for the Eagles, taking home gold with a time of 7.69. Senior Aaliyah McKinney (South Bend, Ind. - John Adams) was hot on her tail, clocking in at 7.71 for second, while fellow senior Morgan Yeadon (Indianapolis, Ind. - Pike) rounded out the top five in fifth.

Moving to the 200 meter dash, the Eagles once again walked away with an event title, as McKinney ran to a 24.72 finish to take first. Yeadon finished just behind her in third with a time of 25.17, while Harris took home fourth. From there, the Green and White swept the 400m, with sophomore Chante Roberts (Lansing, Mich. - Waverly) leading the pack in 56.11. Junior Khadesha James (Irvington, N.J.) took silver with a time of 58.06, and sophomore Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa. - Hempfield Area) finished third in 58.12

Senior Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium - University of Leuven) continued her strong senior campaign, clocking in at 2:14.84 in the 800m to take the title, as well as nab a new career best. The Eagles put two more in the top five, with sophomores Claire Mesa (Rockford, Ill. - Rockford Lutheran) and Rebekan Branham (Circleville, Ohio - Circleville) finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. From there, the distance group continued to be strong for the Eagles, as junior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia - Lyceum #83) took top honors in the mile with a time of 4:44.33, which converted to 4:41.54 due to the flat 200 track. Her time currently sits as the fifth best in the nation, and third best in EMU program history. Freshman Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind. - Zionsville Community) had a strong showing as well, finishing third in 5:02.96.

In the 3000m, junior Anna Aldrich (Fremont, Ind. - Fremont) finished atop the podium, clocking in at 10:19.10, just ahead of teammate senior Amy Frauhammer (Saline, Mich. - Saline), who posted a time of 10:21.02 for a new career best. Sophomore Danielle Bentzley (Birmingham, Mich. - Seaholm) rounded out the top three, finishing in 10:21.53.

Like the 400m, the Eagles swept the 60m hurdles, with freshman Ayanna O'Neal (Cincinnati, Ohio - Winthrow University) leading the way in 8.84. Senior Maya Carter (Racine, Wis. - Case) took the silver with a time of 9.02, and sophomore Tifani Byrd (Toms River, N.J. - Toms River North) finished third in 9.20. The Green and White's success continued to the 4x400m relay, with the group of Hurd, Jones, Bogdanova, and Hardiman taking home top honors in 3:52.76.

Sophomore Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) then took over the triple jump and the  long jump, claiming gold in both events. Dreimane finished with a mark of 12.07 meters in the triple jump and 5.78 meters in the long jump. Junior Kristina Coyne (Pittsburgh, Pa. - Chartiers Valley) also had a solid day, finishing third in the triple jump at 10.85 meters, and also nabbing silver in the high jump with a jump of 1.64 meters.

The trio of junior Janina Pollatz (Grandville, Mich. - Grand Rapids Christian), senior Ellie Braidic (Pandora, Ohio - Pandora-Gilboa), and junior Natalie Uy (Kettering, Ohio - Fairmont) swept the podium in the pole vault, with Pollatz and Braidic both posting marks of 3.92 meters. Pollatz's mark also was a career best. Capping off the day, freshman Jada Taylor (Neptune, N.J. - Neptune)  notched a mark of 14.31 meters in the weight throw, and 10.36 meters in the shot put. Additionally, junior Megan Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio - Woodmore) finished fifth in the weight throw, and fourth in the shot put.
